Description: Color print. This map was prepared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Soils, in cooperation with the N. C. Department of Agriculture and the N.C. Agricultural Experiment Station. The soil survey was undertaken in 1918 by E. S. Vanatta and W. B. Cobb of the U. S. Department of Agriculture and L. L. Brinkley and S. F. Davidson of the North Carolina department. The soil inspection was by W. Edward Hearn. It portrays Hoke County and shows the area and distribution of soil types in the county. Roads, railroads, cities and towns, churches, schools, bridges, and other components of the built environment are also shown. Shows sanatorium, power plant, Battlefield Farm, plank road, and turnpike. Legends reporting the colors used to indicate the various types of soil and the symbols used to note churches, schools, etc., appear on the left side of the map.
