Description: Color print. This map was prepared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Soils, under the direction of Milton Whitney in cooperation with the N.C. Department of Agriculture. The survey was performed by W. B. Cobb and E. S. Vanatta of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and L. L. Brinkley, S. F. Davidson, and F. N. McDowell of the North Carolina department. The map portrays Beaufort County and shows the area and distribution of soil types in the county. Roads, cities and towns, churches, schools, and other components of the built environment are also shown. Relief is depicted by contours and shading. A legend in the right margin outside the neat line reports the colors used to indicate the various types of soil and the symbols used to note churches, schools, etc.
